Municipalities

       It is in the fitness of things that there is a greater number of municipalities in Gondal than elsewhere. The towns of Gondal, Dhoraji, Upleta and Bhayavadar have each a municipality.

       The town enjoying  municipal status were only two during minority, while at present four towns have that status. The annual expenditure on Municipalities has increased 18 times during His Highness,’ regime, exclusive of new works, like roads whose length within Municipal limits measures some 60 miles.

       All the municipal towns have their moiety of conveniences – parks or gardens, open spaces, play grounds, vegetable and grain markets, Dharmashalas and the like. Gondal has in addition electric lighting. There are four gardens, big and small, in Gondal. For all this the inhabitants have to pay nothing. There is no house tax, neither toll nor octroi. The incidence of taxation is practically zero.

       There are 60 miles of municipal roads. Dust, the great spoiler of civic health, is projected to be removed by a regular and extensive, through expensive program of asphalt macadamizing all the main municipal roads.
